Case Study:

Benton Park School, Leeds

Project Overview

Benton Park School, located in Leeds, was re-built as new from the floor up and officially opened its doors in 2021. As a large secondary school accommodating hundreds of students and staff, the building required stringent safety measures — particularly in fire protection — to meet modern educational standards.

Our Role

Northern Sealants was commissioned to provide passive fire protection for the new school. Our team worked throughout the build to install systems that ensure compartmentation and slow the spread of fire and smoke, giving students and staff safe evacuation time in an emergency.

Key Measures

  • Fire stopping around pipework, cable trays, and ductwork across multiple zones.
  • Application of intumescent sealants and collars to service penetrations.
  • Compartmentation in stairwells, corridors, and plant rooms to maintain escape routes.

Project Outcome

The result was a safe, code-compliant educational facility where passive fire protection plays a critical role in day-to-day operation. Our work gave the main contractor peace of mind and contributed to the smooth handover and successful launch of the school.
