Case Study:
University of Sheffield
Project Overview
The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Sheffield was developed as a flagship academic building designed to support innovation in teaching and research. The facility combines open-plan and specialised learning spaces, demanding a careful balance of form and function — including robust fire safety systems.
Our Role
Northern Sealants was appointed to deliver passive fire protection across the building, ensuring that all mechanical and electrical penetrations, structural junctions, and compartment lines were sealed and compliant with fire regulations.
Key Measures
- Installation of intumescent wraps, sealants, and batt systems to M&E service penetrations.
- Full perimeter sealing to prevent lateral fire spread.
- Integration with the building’s fire strategy and inspection teams.
Project Outcome
Our fire stopping works played a key role in the successful completion of this prominent academic building. The University of Sheffield can now rely on a fire-safe, future-ready environment for staff and students alike.
